Developing Your Intuition

Intuition is a tool that all of us have. Some think it’s a mystical power. Others feel that it’s our subconscious trying to communicate with us. Either way, we all have that little voice that tries to tell us things from time to time.

It’s too bad that as we grow from children into adults, we listen to that voice less and instead focus on logic. But we’ve had so many experiences throughout our lives that we can learn from and our brain accumulates a ton of wisdom. Listening to that little voice can be a good thing. And if you’re not, you’re missing out.

Try these techniques to develop your intuition:

Meditate for a few minutes each day. One characteristic of intuition is that it has a soft voice most of the time. It can be challenging to notice it if our minds are busy with other things. Meditation is a great way to clear the mind and make room for our intuition to come shining through.

Another technique you can try is to recall your dreams. Our dreams can be full of insights and many psychologists believe that we work out our challenges in our sleep. Studies show that we average five dreams per night! Can you imagine how life-changing it would be to remember all the messages we are receiving?

To help you recall your dreams, try telling yourself once you get into bed that you want to remember your dreams in the morning. Keep telling yourself until you fall asleep. As soon as you wake up, start writing down what you remember. Dreams fade from memory quickly so make sure you have a notebook or your phone on your nightstand. What do you associate with the people, places, and things that showed up in your dreams? What emotions do you feel? Look at any themes between your insights and what’s currently going on in your life. Slowly but surely, you will put the pieces together.

And don’t get discouraged if you’re having trouble tuning in to your intuition. These insights won’t come overnight (At least, not at first!). Intuition is a muscle that you need to build, but once you do, you’ll enjoy all the benefits!
